Reino is in good hands.

Reino is in good hands.

Our friends’ wedding anniversary was today and we gladly promised to babysit our godson Reino while they went celebrating.

We took a small walk at the nearby beach but Reino wasn’t too keen on sleeping. Especially smooth rides on asphalt were something he didn’t like – the bumpier the better.

Reino thinks his godfather is funny - clever kid he!

Since the sandman didn’t enter (where were you James Hetfield?) we went back inside to play and do some hug walking. We even got a few wide smiles out of his face :D

Our lunch room @ work closed its doors for the summer today – how convenient. Had me a tiny pizza and 0-coke as lunch today. Barely made it through the day with that mud flap.

Rush hour at the countryside.

Rush hour at the countryside.

Sunday was even hotter day than Saturday. So off to the backyard again to get some more color on the skin. Between laying on the blanket, we played some badminton and board games and sipped a bottle of ice cold Fresita. We got hungry while hitting badminton and took a bike ride to Muurame centre and ordered a pizza at Pizzetto.

It was pretty much a perfect weekend.

Now I’m off to sauna to get the weekend properly wrapped up.

Good thing the player is portable...

Good thing the player is portable...

At Friday after work we went shopping to Jyväskylä. Bumped into few friends and went to Memphis to grab a bite to eat. And back to shopping. Got a big bag full of goodies; some shoes, badminton rackets etc.

Saturday was a really laid-back day. Just laying at the backyard getting tanned while listening to music. Tested out the new badminton rackets and grilled some chicken skewers. I also tried the grocery wagon in action and it worked like a Buick.

In the evening we went to a local pub called Muurmanni. Couldn’t find a bike lock anywhere so I had to do a makeshift lock using LPT printer cable and a hose clamp :) After enjoying a band called Duo Tornado for about an hour we headed home for a good night’s sleep.

LOL. Don’t take me/this blog too seriously, my tongue is out most of the day :P

The ultimate grocery wagon.

The ultimate grocery wagon.

My bicycle trailer arrived for Germany. Had some problems with DHL’s delivery times since they were pretty narrow. Eventually I had to leave a warrant of attorney at our doorstep for DHL to deliver the package without me signing it.

I just had to assemble the trailer straight away and bolt it on to see how wicked it would look like behind the Palerider. That’s exactly what it looked like – wicked! The trailer is actually so lightweight that one can’t even notice it while cycling.

Watch out grannies, here comes the ultimate grocery wagon :)

Warezcrow.

Dem birdz ate our berries last summer. I got fed up on feeding them and hanged some old CD’s and DVD’s to nearby trees to scare them. It’s nerdy enough and seems to work a-ok; zero birds at the backyard today! My, eh, backup copies turned out to be useful after all. Remember me to thank Bill if I get to have some gooseberry jam on me pancakes next winter.

BTW, did you notice the fly? He (yeah, I got sharp eyesight) doesn’t seem to be too bothered by the DVD… he must be a 32-bit insect.

Free icecream @ car wash.

Free icecream @ car wash.

Today was just an ordinary day at work. It’s been quite busy although most people should be on a summer vacation. In the afternoon I took a car wash which came with nice bonuses; 2 EUR discount and free icecream. It made me happy.

I also got a new toy today (oops, yesterday – it’s already way past midnight). Anyways, mailman brought me a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. I bought it mostly for its capabilities as an mp3 player and surfing the web on the road. It’s a tad odd not to have any buttons on a phone, but I quess I’ll get used to it in no time. All things – foremost the price – considered, it seems to be a really nice toy slash tool.

25 kilometers killed my butt.

25 kilometers killed my butt.

Damn. My butt aches. Had to go for another test drive today with Bianchi. I pedaled 25 kilometers in one hour, so achieved the average speed of 25 km/h – me thinks it’s pretty good. Riding uphills sucked… or better yet, I sucked riding uphills… big time. Tomorrow might be an interesting day, we’ll see if I can walk or not. I will not go near a bike, that’s for sure. Aargh.

Cruisin' with the Palerider.

Cruisin' with the Palerider.

It was such a nice summer evening that we decided to go bicycling. It was also a test ride for our two new bikes. While moving from Jyväskylä to Muurame, we left behind both our bicycles.. though I’m still itching to get my old grandfather-style ride back, if it’s not stolen already.

The Palerider was a quick project of mine at the spring. One day I thought that we have to get a bike to cruise to the mall to get the groceries (ahem, beer). I was off to Biltema to get the cheapest cruiser they had available. I chopped it to pieces, painted it matte white / matte black and threw all extra parts away. The idea was to have a rat-like cruiser but I didn’t want to go all matte black with it. I’m pretty satisfied with the result since I did the bike in a weekend.

Last week I also invested in a bit speedier bike I thought I might even ride to Jyväskylä with (some 20 kilometers). It’s Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Alu/Carbon – a road bike that’s from the opposite end of the bike spectrum than the Palerider. Both bikes were nice to ride with… The Palerider being much more fun – just lay back and cruise – and with Bianchi, one is forced to ride like crazy. Two different kinds of bikes for two different kinds of riding.

I’d still go to the mall with the Palerider. You can’t buy beer while riding a road bike now can you?

Driving evil spirits away with bonfire.

Driving evil spirits away with bonfire.

Yippee, it’s midsummer fest. Just got the party started by running half an hour with lawnmower and drinking an ice cold beer as a reward.

We’re off to Janne’s summer cottage for three days so we’ll be sipping beverages, eating grill food and taking sauna baths. A lot.

UPDATE: Midsummer fest is over.

We had really good time although the weather was crappy pretty much all Saturday. Good thing we spent all Friday outside playing games, shooting and blowing things up. That’s what a normal midsummer fest is all about, no? The rainy Saturday was spent mostly by playing indoors and when the evening cleared up we lit up yet another bonfire and listened to some music at the lake shore.

Thanks to Janne and Tanja for the company and Janne, say thanks to your parents as well. Maybe we’ll have another go in the autumn like last year?
